Dear Friend,
Dinners For Kids was founded over 12 years ago with the goal of addressing Childhood hunger by providing daily prepared, nutritious and balanced dinners (accompanied with fresh fruit) to at-risk children. Our goal, and enduring objective, is to do everything possible to ensure that children never again go to bed on an empty stomach.
Today, we feed 240 children year-round, providing 75,000 meals annually, to children who otherwise would be deprived of dinner or subsist on unfulfilling and unhealthy snacks. The research is irrefutable – healthy meals for children are essential for growth, development, and learning.
Thanks to your help, we have done so much for our region’s children – but there is always more to do and there are more children to reach. Your support will enable us to serve more families that suffered during the pandemic. On top of this, food prices, rental and utilities costs have skyrocketed due to inflation and supply-side challenges, only adding to the challenges.
Help us continue our mission to end childhood hunger.
Please join us at our 6th annual dinner event on Thursday October 12th, 2023. Our honoree this year is Rabbi Larry Kaplan who deserves this recognition and expression of appreciation. He is one of the founders of the Dinners For Kids program, serving on our Board for many years and still involved with our annual Dinner events.
In addition to being the spiritual leader of Temple Israel of Wilkes Barre since 1998, Rabbi Larry Kaplan is a great community leader. Rabbi Larry Kaplan has served on the boards of many local organizations, including the Interfaith Council, The Downtown Ministerium, the Luzerne Foundation, Children’s Service Center, Dinners For Kids, Ruth’s Place, Step By Step, the Jewish Community Alliance, and is past chair of the advisory board of Luzerne County Children and Youth Services. Founded over 12 years ago by David and Edna Tevet, Dinners for Kids has provided more than 500,000 meals to food insecure children in the Greater Wyoming Valley. Currently more than 240 children receive 6 dinner meals each week, 52 weeks per year, delivered to their homes by volunteers at no cost to their families.
How is this possible? It is thanks to the financial support of our community and the many volunteers who package and deliver the meals.
